SIU’s PJ Jules and SEMO’s Geno Hess reflect on college football careers, War for the Wheel

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Geno Hess and PJ Jules’s college football careers are over, but not before 56 career games each and many more memories made.

“I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world,” Jules said.

“The last six seasons, five and a half years, it’s just been life-changing knowing that I got to live out my Division 1 dreams,” Hess said.

The two appeared in four War for the Wheel games against each other, with Jules’ Salukis winning three of those games.

And both players have the utmost respect for what the other brings to the table.

“It was just always knowing where he was at on the field,” Hess said. “You just can’t let him go unnoticed because at any given moment, you know he can make a play.”

“He’s basically the motor of the offense,” Jules said. “They built the offense through him. He’s going to do what he’s got to do. He’s a great player. Respect.”

Hess said of the War for the Wheel game, “I feel like we always brought the best out of both programs at the end of the day. They got the Wheel this year, so salute to them.”

And while Jules and Hess played their final War for Wheel Game at Houck Field back in September, Hess shared this message for next year’s Redhawks team.

“Just go get the wheel back. I just know there are people on this call that have it right now, but just go get the wheel back next year in hostile territory. Just go bring it back home where it belongs.”
