Trees down over roads, power outages reported after storms
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (KBSI) – A few thousand people lost power after powerful storms rolled through the FOX23 viewing area early Tuesday morning.
Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative reports the following outages as of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
130 members affected in the following counties:
- Alexander – 17
- Johnson – 23
- Pulaksi – 35
- Union – 36
Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a large call volume related to storm damage and road blockage. There is a large number of trees across roadways throughout the county. Residents are experiencing power outages.
The heaviest concentration of road blockages due to downed trees is in the southern part of Williamson County, specifically the areas of I-24, Lake of Egypt Road, and South Market Street.
Crews are working to clear the roads. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and reduce speed to avoid unexpected obstacles in the roadway.
A tree is down and power lines hanging low at Mt. Auburn and Wisteria in Cape Girardeau.
In McCracken County, Ky. near the Heath area storms damaged home. Trees are down blocking some roadways in the Woodville Rd, Rice Springs and Bethel Rd area, according to McCracken County Emergency Management officials.
As of 5:13 a.m., Ameren Missouri reported 1,340 outages in Cape Girardeau County and more than 3,000 in the Sikeston/Charleston area.
Ameren Illinois reports outages near Anna, Carrier Mills, Harrisburg and Eldorado.
Citizens Electric Cooperative reports two customers without power as of 2:43 p.m. That is down from 1,094 outages at 5:30 a.m. in Cape Girardeau County.
SEMO Electric Cooperative reports two outages at 2:45 p.m. That is down from roughly 1,500 outages Tuesday morning.
Notre Dame Regional High School will have a delayed start on April 2 of 10 a.m. due to a power outage. If power is not restored by 9 a.m., a cancellation notice will go out, according to a post on the school’s Facebook page.
There is a one hour delay to the start time for Charleston R-I School due to a power outage.
