Concerned citizens speak out at Cape Girardeau City Council meeting after graduation shooting
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A few people spoke up about the shooting at Monday night’s Cape Girardeau City Council meeting a day after two people were injured in a shooting at the Cape Central High School graduation Sunday afternoon at the Show Me Center.
Cape Girardeau Mayor Stacy Kinder says the violent choices of a few people are absolutely tragic.
She says this is a continuing conversation regarding safety in the community.
Concerned citizens spoke to the council to encourage city leaders and citizens to pull together and come up with solutions for a safer city.
Michelle Latham, a concerned citizen and business owner, says it is a conversation that needs to be had. She says it is an increasing problem in the community and is not being addressed. She felt the need to come to the meeting and encourage city leaders and citizens to pull together and come up with solutions.
“The mental impacts, the social impact,” said Michelle Latham, a concerned citizen and business owner. “So I think about all those things and something needs to be done sooner rather than later before we really do end up like Chicago.”
She says there are multiple ideas by various organizations on how to increase safety in the community.
