Neighborhood roll call in south Cape
CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – This is the fourth roll call this year, put on by police to connect with different parts of the community. This time it takes us to south Cape, to a spot off Hickory and Benton streets.
Police are spending time with the community and having a conversation with people about life in Cape. That includes improvements to neighborhoods; and also recent violence and shots fired calls. Officers and first responders hope to make friends and make progress. Residents got to go inside a fire truck and see first-hand how the k-9 unit operates.
Cape Girardeau Resident David Burton says, “I think it’s very good for the community. You get the police officers out to walk around with the community, ask what are their concerns. You know, just get familiar with them. So, everybody gets a little bit of what’s going on with the police department, instead of getting just one sided information. You know, there’s 2 sides to every story.”
The roll calls usually last from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Police say you are welcome to reach out anytime you have a question.
