Babe Ruth World Series concludes in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Babe Ruth World Series concluded in Cape Girardeau.

The 18-team event will took place August 9-15 at Capaha Park and Cape Central High School.

The Babe Ruth Little League World Series brought teams from across the globe to southeast Missouri.

Tournament Director Jeff Graviett says the tournament is a great place for young kids from all over to show the world their baseball skill set

“It’s basically a 19u tournament, a lot of 17,18,19 year old kids here representing 5 different countries that are here,” said Graviett. “We had 12 teams from the United States here just a great opportunity to come watch young kids play baseball something with a passion and it’s been a fun week of baseball.”

Event organizer and host team manager Michael Minner says the event is going to be the largest in the history of the Babe Ruth 16-18 World Series.

“We’re super excited to be the host again,” said Minner. “This is a once in a lifetime event for many of these kids and families. We’re lucky to have it right here in Southeast Missouri. It’s going to be really good baseball. Teams are coming from all over the world. It’s definitely a week you’ll want to hang out at the park. You won’t be disappointed.”

Minner is the manager of the Aycorp Charleston Fighting Squirrels.

Defending champion Southeast Tropics will join the Squirrels, two United States invite teams, eight regional champions and six international teams.

This year’s international teams will include Australia, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Aruba and the Netherlands.

All of the regional champions have won tournaments in their respective regions that earned them the right to compete for the title in Cape Girardeau.
