According to the McCracken County Emergency Management, the incident happened in the 300 block of Schmidt Road near Bell Lane.

A resident of the home was attempting to light a propane fire causing the house to burst into flames taking out an entire side of the home.

The fire happened around 2:30 in the afternoon and fire personnel did not end up leaving until after 5 p.m.

Nearly thirty fire personnel were on the scene putting out the fire.

The Fire Chief of Hendron said one person was injured and taken to the burn center in Vanderbilt.

Chief Doug Cooper also confirmed the explosion was caused by someone attempting to light a propane fire.

“There was one male that was attempting to light a propane on either a set of logs or a furnace. I’m not sure exactly which one. He was attempting to light it, and, apparently, he had a gas buildup of propane, and it exploded on him. He had burns. they said 30% of his body, mainly hands, forearms, and the facial and neck area from the blast of it,” said Cooper.

The house is expected to be a total loss.

Witnesses say people were seen running from the home and leaving in vehicles.

Lone Fire and Hendron Fire departments are on the scene.

The DES Rescue Squad has been called to assist with traffic control.
They are urging people to avoid the area as first responders continue to work.
