Georgia man arrested in Minor due to pulling a quick-change tactic

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – One person is behind bars after pulling a fast one of a cashier.

On Saturday, January 18, a Sikeston local retail business realized they had been duped out of cash and by a unique way of theft.

A 34-year-old Georgia man, Dominique Ezell was arrested in Minor. Authorities say he was doing something called a quick change at a local business in Sikeston.

The local business reviewed their cameras and saw a suspect that had interacted with the cashier to do the quick-change tactic, which is not a common occurrence locally.

The Public Information Officer for Sikeston Department of Public Safety explains what the quick-change tactic is and how people steal up to thousands of dollars from businesses.

“That is where they go to exchange large bills, for smaller bills. In the process, distract the cashier or whoever’s working the register, to not only get the bills that they’re trying to exchange for, but also keep the bills that they had in their hand. so essentially, the business exchanges money, but never puts any back in their register,” said Rowe.

Ezell is currently in custody in Sikeston on a Scott County Criminal arrest warrant for stealing and is set to a thousand-dollar cash bond.

This investigation is open and ongoing.
