SIU Carbondale, Taiwanese University sign agreement for academic collaboration

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Southern Illinois University Carbondale has entered into an agreement with Chaoyang University of Technology in Taiwan to promote collaborative academic, research and student exchange programs.

The memorandum of understanding between SIU and CYUT will initially involve the SIU School of Aviation but may expand to other academic areas, according to Robert D. Morgan, dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Under the agreement, qualified CYUT students will pay the same tuition rates as in-state SIU students. The exchange is expected to benefit both universities by fostering cultural exchange and academic collaboration.

Discussions between the universities began last year, with visits from SIU’s Chien-tsung Lu to CYUT in May and CYUT’s Alex Yen-Liang Lu to SIU in November.

The agreement includes all of SIU’s aviation programs and opens up opportunities for faculty and student collaboration with CYUT.

CYUT students may arrive at SIU within the next year, pending English proficiency requirements. The universities also plan to develop collaborative research relationships through visiting scholars or guest professors.
