Illinois EPA awards $527,737 to support lead service line inventories

SOUTHERN, Ill., (KBSI) — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) has awarded $527,737 to 15 community water supplies to support the creation of lead service line inventories.
The funding is part of the Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI) grant program, which assists community water supplies in meeting the requirements of the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act (LSLRN Act).
To date, 264 Illinois drinking water systems have benefited from this funding, which was announced in October 2022. The LSLRN Act requires owners and operators of community water supplies to submit a complete, final water service line material inventory for Illinois EPA’s approval.
“We are pleased that communities continue to seek this funding to identify and replace lead service lines within their water distribution systems,” said Acting Director James Jennings.
Grantees may also request supplemental funding through the Illinois EPA’s Public Water Supply Loan Program (PWSLP).
