Kentucky Governor declares state of emergency amid severe weather forecast

FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency Wednesday morning as severe storms are expected to hit the state over the next four days.

Western Kentucky is under a Level 5 severe weather risk, indicating widespread, intense, and long-lived storms. The entire state is at risk for tornadoes, hail, flooding, and strong winds.

The Kentucky Emergency Operations Center and units of the Kentucky National Guard are on standby to respond. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local emergency management leaders are also on alert.

Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution, especially during overnight hours when storms and tornadoes are more likely to cause fatalities.
