Cape Girardeau Police Department welcomes DJ Daniel as honorary officer
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Chief Glueck and Assistant Chief Estes attended an inspiring ceremony where DJ Daniel, 13, and other young cancer warriors were sworn in as honorary police officers across 203 agencies nationwide.
Despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer, DJ has become an inspiration to many with his strength, positivity and determination to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer.
DJ’s passion for law enforcement began after his family’s interaction with police during Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts in 2017.
He was later diagnosed with a rare form of brain and spinal cancer.
Undeterred, DJ set out to be sworn in by as many law enforcement agencies as possible, surpassing his initial goal of 100 agencies.
He has now been sworn in by over 1,100 agencies nationwide, including the United States Secret Service.
The Cape Girardeau Police Department is proud to have welcomed DJ as an honorary officer, joining the list of over 1,100 agencies that have recognized his dedication.
“It was an honor to meet DJ and help make his dream come true. His courage and love for law enforcement are remarkable,” said the department.
Tonight, DJ will throw out the first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals game, an event the Cape Girardeau Police Department will be cheering him on for.
DJ’s story serves as a reminder of true bravery and the impact one individual can have on a community.
