MoDOT to host public meeting on planned intersection improvements in Cherokee Pass
SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Department of Transportation will host a public meeting Monday to discuss planned intersection improvements on U.S. Route 67.
The meeting, scheduled for 4-6 p.m. at the Cherokee Pass Fire Department in Fredericktown, will focus on proposed J-turn installations at Routes A and C in Cherokee Pass.
According to MoDOT Project Manager Chris Crocker, the project aims to enhance safety by removing median crossovers and installing J-turns, which have been shown to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes.
“With a J-turn, motorists will no longer need to cross fast-moving lanes of traffic,” Crocker said. “Instead, drivers will turn right, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn in the direction they intend to travel.”
The project is expected to be let in March 2026, with construction beginning as early as May 2026. Completion is anticipated by early 2027.
The public meeting will be held in an open house format, allowing visitors to stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the project with the team.
