Kendell Marvel to perform benefit concert for Market Street Music Conservatory

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — Country songwriter and Southern Illinois native Kendell Marvel will return home Sept. 20 for an evening of storytelling and music to benefit the Market Street Music Conservatory.

Marvel, who grew up between Galatia and Thompsonville, has written hits for artists including Chris Stapleton, George Strait and Jamey Johnson. Now, he’s taking the stage himself to share songs and stories from decades in the studio and on the road.

The event, Stories and Songs with Kendell Marvel, will be held at Market Street Hall inside the Conservatory at 310 N. Market Street in Marion. Proceeds will support the Conservatory’s mission of providing accessible music and arts education across Southern Illinois.

“At Market Street Music Conservatory, we believe everyone deserves the chance to unlock their potential through music and art,” said Executive Director April Camden Mitter. “Our programs inspire students of all ages and skill levels, offering not only excellent instruction but also opportunities for performance and cultural enrichment across Southern Illinois and beyond.”

Marvel, 51, said his music reflects an unapologetic perspective on life and storytelling. “I’m long past the point of catering to anybody,” he said. “I’m just telling the stories I want to tell, whether it’s a song like Come on Sunshine, looking to pour some light into people struggling with the doom, or Keep Doing Your Thing, which argues that the world would be a better place if we just let people be who you are.”

Tickets are available online at Zeffy.com. Seating is limited, and organizers expect the performance to sell out.
