Deputies raid Marion recovery home, arrest one, seek three others in drug case

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — Williamson County deputies executed a search warrant Thursday at a Marion recovery home after investigators said a resident sold drugs to an undercover officer.
The search took place around 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at 806 Morningside Drive, a residence intended to provide a drug- and alcohol-free environment for people in recovery.
Deputies said they found methamphetamine, controlled substances, digital scales, packaging materials, syringes and other drug paraphernalia inside the home.
Sheriff Jeff Diederich said the activity was especially concerning because the residence is located within 1,000 feet of an elementary school and near one of the community’s busiest parks. “Not only does it create a safety concern for our children, but it undermines the value of recovery homes that serve a community and support those who truly desire to rid their lives of addiction,” he said.
Deputies arrested Gordon L. Yearian, who was booked into the Williamson County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.
Authorities also obtained arrest warrants for three other suspects:
Keith E. Horton — delivery of methamphetamine (Class X felony), possession of a controlled substance (Class 4 felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
Kevin R. Chandler — possession of methamphetamine (Class 2 felony), delivery of cannabis (Class 2 felony), possession of cannabis (Class 3 felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
Earl D. Merritt — possession of methamphetamine (Class 3 felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected, officials said.
Anyone with information about Horton, Chandler or Merritt is asked to contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at 618-997-6541 or submit a tip through the Williamson County Sheriff’s App. Anonymous tips are accepted.
