Deputies recover stolen motorcycle, arrest Herrin man

HERRIN, Ill., (KBSI) — A Herrin man was arrested after Williamson County deputies recovered a stolen motorcycle and found multiple credit cards belonging to other people during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Around 5:06 p.m., deputies observed a motorcycle traveling east on Herrin Road, just west of the elementary school. The operator, Travis L. Conroy, was known to deputies from prior law enforcement contact and was seen riding a motorcycle matching the description of one that had previously fled from officers several days earlier.

Deputies noted that the motorcycle did not have a visible registration plate. When they turned to follow the vehicle, the motorcycle accelerated, passed several cars, and left the roadway, traveling north through a field. Deputies located Conroy moments later near a business in the 5000 block of Herrin Road, where he was taken into custody without incident.

A records check revealed Conroy’s driver’s license was suspended and that he had an active Franklin County warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of criminal trespass to a residence. Deputies also confirmed the motorcycle had been reported stolen.

A search of Conroy’s person uncovered five credit cards belonging to four different people. The cards were seized as evidence.

Conroy was charged with:

Possession of a stolen vehicle (Class 2 felony)

Possession of another’s credit card (Class 4 felony)

Driving while license suspended (Class A misdemeanor)

No valid driver’s license (Class A misdemeanor)

Improper display of registration (petty offense)

Improper passing (petty offense)

Conroy was booked into the Williamson County Jail.
