CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A Cape Girardeau woman has been arrested and charged following a shots-fired incident that endangered several juveniles, police said.

Officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded at about 4:13 p.m. Dec. 27, 2025, to the 500 block of South Hanover Street after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of gunfire and determined a residence had been struck by bullets. Police said six juveniles, ranging in age from 5 to 17, were inside the residence at the time. No injuries were reported.

A short time later, officers located a suspect vehicle near Bloomfield Street and South Hanover. The sole occupant, later identified as Tomeika Patterson, 29, of Cape Girardeau, refused to identify herself to officers. Police said Patterson resisted as officers attempted to detain her and was arrested for resisting arrest.

During a subsequent interview, Patterson admitted to firing the shots in the 500 block of South Hanover, according to police. She told officers she was a passenger in the vehicle and said she handed the firearm to another individual after the shooting. The location of the firearm is unknown, police said.

A search of the vehicle led officers to locate ammunition and a suspected controlled substance.

Patterson was formally charged through the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with unlawful use of a weapon, a Class B felony; armed criminal action, a felony; resisting arrest, a Class E felony; and possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony. She is being held without bond.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations and that Patterson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
