Kentucky State Police report multiple crashes, slick roads
FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
MADISONVILLE, Ky., (KBSI) — The Kentucky State Police Post 2 responded to dozens of calls early Wednesday as slick road conditions led to numerous crashes across western Kentucky.
Police said troopers responded to about 40 calls during the early morning hours, assisting three motorists and working 30 collisions. Three of those crashes resulted in injuries. Most collisions occurred along the Western Kentucky Parkway between Caldwell and Muhlenberg counties, as well as on other state highways.
Troopers were working two separate crashes Wednesday morning that continued to impact traffic.
The Western Kentucky Parkway was reduced to one lane near the 83-mile marker on the northbound side in Caldwell County. In addition, troopers responded to KY 672 in Caldwell County, where two semi-trucks with trailers were blocking the roadway because of slick conditions, causing traffic delays.
State police urged motorists to use extreme caution and expect delays when traveling throughout the Post 2 district and across the state. Officials said light rainfall has made roadways slick and hazardous, noting that ice may be difficult to see and can appear as wet pavement.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and avoid unnecessary travel. As temperatures continue to drop and additional weather moves into the area over the weekend, officials said motorists should continue to monitor local road and weather conditions.
