Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces 2026–27 college scholarships

ILLINOIS (KBSI) — The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announced it will award more than $58,000 in college scholarships statewide to students pursuing higher education during the 2026–27 academic year.
The scholarships may be applied to tuition, books and fees. Eligible students must be permanent Illinois residents and enrolled full time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state. Full-time enrollment at Illinois-based institutions offering online learning is also acceptable. Scholarships do not apply to summer sessions.
As part of the program, Jeff Bullard Sr., sheriff of Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, will award one $500 scholarship. The program does not restrict applicants based on race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be permanent Illinois residents
- Use the scholarship at an Illinois institution of higher learning, including approved online programs
- Be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2026–27 school year
Applications are available through local sheriff’s offices or on the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association website. Students must complete the application, answer the required essay question and submit all documentation to the sheriff’s office in their county of permanent residence by March 13, 2026. Applications must be postmarked by that date.
