City of Jackson activates snow plan ahead of winter storm

FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — City of Jackson has activated its Winter Operations and Emergency Response Plan ahead of an expected winter storm forecast to impact the area beginning Saturday morning.

Public Works Street Department crews began pretreating city streets with about 2,500 gallons of salt brine and are prepared to deploy the city’s full fleet of snowplows as conditions worsen. Crews will continue operations throughout the storm using rock salt, cinders and plowing, city officials said.

Snow removal will follow a tiered priority system, beginning with designated snow routes, followed by intersections, hills and bridges, then collector streets and local streets.

Officials said snow routes will remain the primary focus during the storm and some local streets may not be cleared until early next week.

Public Works crews will work extended hours on rotating shifts to provide continuous coverage. A Snow Route Proclamation is in effect, and residents are urged to remove vehicles from snow routes to allow access for snowplows and emergency vehicles.

City officials advised residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Those who must travel are encouraged to use extreme caution and carry a winter storm safety kit.

Residents can report city service, street or utility issues by contacting Public Works at 573-243-2300, which is monitored 24 hours a day. City officials thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as crews work to maintain safe roadway conditions.
