CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors has approved several academic program changes and authorized the university to move forward with demolition of Brandt Hall.

Among the changes, the university’s agribusiness: animal science program will transition into a standalone Bachelor of Science in animal science. University officials said the change will provide flexibility for students pursuing agribusiness or pre-veterinary studies and help meet workforce demands.

The board also approved a new marketing management option within the Master of Business Administration program. The university said the MBA concentration will focus on areas such as digital marketing, analytics, consumer insights and brand strategy.

In addition, SEMO will introduce a Master of Science in network security, aimed at preparing students for careers in cybersecurity and advanced networking. Officials cited continued growth in demand for cybersecurity professionals.

The university’s television and film program will also be restructured. A new Bachelor of Science in film production will emphasize storytelling, production skills and portfolio development. Television studies will be combined with the mass communications: multimedia journalism program.

All new academic programs must receive final approval from the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

The board also authorized contracts with Courtney Construction and American Asbestos Abatement/Midwest Services Group for demolition of Brandt Hall, which is currently vacant. Demolition is expected to take place through the spring and summer, with completion anticipated before the fall 2026 semester.
