Jury convicts’ man on drug trafficking charges, recommends 20-year sentence

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — A Graves County jury has found a 39-year-old man guilty on multiple drug trafficking charges and recommended a 20-year prison sentence, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.
Brandon I. Cavette was convicted of trafficking more than 5 pounds of marijuana, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a persistent felony offender. Officials said Cavette also has prior drug trafficking convictions in other states. Formal sentencing is scheduled for a later date.
Authorities said the case stemmed from a search warrant executed at Cavette’s residence on Key Bottom Road in Graves County.
Cavette also faces a separate pending case in which he is accused of attempting to hire individuals to kill former Graves County Commonwealth’s Attorney Richie Kemp in retaliation for prosecuting him.
The investigation was conducted by the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, and the case was prosecuted by the Graves County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
