Swimming not recommended at three Missouri state park beaches due to bacteria levels

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — State health officials are advising against swimming at three Missouri state park beaches after water samples showed elevated levels of E. coli bacteria.

According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, swimming is not recommended at the following beaches as of June 5:

* Lake Lincoln Beach at Cuivre River State Park near Troy
* Public Beach No. 1 at Lake of the Ozarks State Park near Kaiser
* Pim Lake Beach at St. Joe State Park near Park Hills

State officials recommend against swimming when the geometric mean of weekly water quality samples exceeds 190 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water.

Several beaches remained open and did not exceed recommended E. coli levels, including beaches at Trail of Tears State Park in Jackson, Lake Wappapello State Park, Mark Twain State Park, Finger Lakes State Park and Stockton State Park.

Officials also reported that Hermitage Beach at Pomme de Terre State Park remains closed because of harmful algal blooms, although water quality samples did not exceed E. coli thresholds.

No beaches had pending water quality test results as of Friday.
