Jackson County Health Department to offer free kidney and diabetes screenings

FOX23 News at 9 p.m

MURPHYSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — The Jackson County Health Department, in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, will offer free kidney and diabetes screenings on June 18.

The screenings will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the health department’s back building and are open to adults 18 and older. While walk-ins will be accepted, officials encourage participants to pre-register to help speed up the check-in process.

Health officials said the screenings are intended to help identify risk factors for chronic kidney disease and diabetes.

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive condition that can develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. If left untreated, the disease can lead to complications including high blood pressure, anemia, weakened bones, nerve damage and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

The health department encourages residents to maintain healthy lifestyles through proper nutrition, regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco use and staying hydrated to help reduce the risk of kidney disease and other chronic health conditions.

Community members interested in participating can pre-register through the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.
