A deal has been reached between the United States and Iran to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to announcements made Sunday by both countries and international mediators.

President Donald Trump announced the agreement in a social media post, calling the deal complete and authorizing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of the U.S. naval blockade.

“Congratulations to all!” Trump wrote. “Let the oil flow!”

However, Iranian officials said the agreement will not take effect until it is formally signed Friday in Switzerland. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the deal on state television and said the full text will be released after the signing ceremony.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil and natural gas, and its closure during the conflict disrupted global energy markets.

Pakistan, which helped mediate negotiations, said both sides agreed to the immediate and permanent termination of military operations. Additional meetings are expected this week in Qatar as officials prepare for future talks on unresolved issues, including Iran’s nuclear program.

The United Nations called the agreement a “critical step” toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The deal is expected to be formally signed Friday in Switzerland.
