Caruthersville chief thanks responders after June 11 standoff

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) — Caruthersville Police Chief Jerry Hudgens is thanking officers and emergency responders who helped resolve last week’s armed standoff in Caruthersville.
In a statement released Monday, Hudgens praised the professionalism and courage of officers involved in the June 11 incident, which drew assistance from numerous local, state and regional agencies.
The statement comes days after a lengthy standoff in Caruthersville that prompted road closures, a large law enforcement response and warnings for residents to avoid the area. Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott told FOX23 officers took Zachary Walker into custody. The patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the shooting.
“I could not be more proud of the officers and personnel of the Caruthersville Police Department,” Hudgens said. “Their professionalism, courage, restraint and commitment to duty were evident throughout this critical incident.”
Hudgens described the standoff as a dangerous situation that highlighted the risks first responders face while protecting their communities.

Hudgens said the agencies’ teamwork helped bring the volatile situation to a safe resolution and ensured officers and first responders returned home safely.
The chief also asked residents to continue supporting law enforcement, firefighters, dispatchers and emergency personnel.
