FOX23 News at 9 p.m
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has announced updated income eligibility guidelines for the Women, Infants and Children program, commonly known as WIC.
The revised guidelines are based on 185% of the federal poverty level and follow annual updates issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
WIC provides supplemental nutrition assistance, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and health care referrals to eligible pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children younger than 5.
To qualify, applicants must live in Missouri, meet income requirements and be determined to be at nutritional risk. Participants enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance and most MO HealthNet programs automatically meet WIC income requirements.
Under the updated guidelines, the annual income limit is:
- $29,526 for a household of one
- $40,034 for a household of two
- $50,542 for a household of three
- $61,050 for a household of four
Officials noted that pregnant women may count as two family members when determining eligibility.
The WIC program is administered in all 114 Missouri counties and the City of St. Louis through 116 local agencies.
