Camp Graves selling housing campus, seeking community support to continue operations

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — Camp Graves has announced the sale of its temporary housing campus on Broadway in Mayfield as the nonprofit faces financial challenges caused by rising operating costs and declining funding opportunities.

In a statement, the Camp Graves Board of Directors said the organization has served Western Kentucky and surrounding communities for the past four and a half years, housing more than 130 households and providing more than 11,000 resource referrals to nearly 3,500 people.

The board voted June 17 to sell the Broadway campus to Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana of Mayfield. Officials said the property will continue to be used for temporary housing and support services for Hispanic families while generating funds to help sustain Camp Graves’ remaining facilities.

Those facilities include 13 tiny homes in Water Valley and nine beds at the Camp Rendezvous Veteran Housing and Work Center in Mayfield.

Camp Graves said increasing competition for grants, a decline in charitable giving and limited eligibility for some federal and state funding programs contributed to the decision.

According to the organization, proceeds from the sale are expected to cover operating costs only through the end of 2026.

Without additional financial support, Camp Graves said it may be forced to sell more housing units, reducing the number of beds available for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the region.

The nonprofit has launched a new fundraising initiative called the “Product of Opportunity Partners” campaign, seeking one-time donations and ongoing financial commitments from businesses, churches, organizations and individuals.

Camp Graves officials said community support is critical to maintaining homelessness services and housing resources throughout the Purchase Area.
