CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Cape Girardeau police have identified a suspect in a fatal stabbing earlier this week and are asking for the public’s help locating him.

According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, detectives identified the suspect as Christopher John Crawford, 33, of Cape Girardeau.

On Thursday, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued a no-bond warrant charging Crawford with second-degree murder, a Class A felony, and armed criminal action.

Police said Crawford should not be approached and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department or their nearest law enforcement agency.

The charges stem from a stabbing reported around 9 p.m. July 6 in the 1100 block of William Street.

Officers found 36-year-old Deandre Betts of Cape Girardeau suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. Betts was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams took custody of Betts, and an autopsy was scheduled.

The investigation remains ongoing.
