SEMO District Fair announces updated livestock requirements, security policies for 2026

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The SEMO District Fair is reminding exhibitors to review updated Missouri livestock exhibition requirements before bringing animals to this year’s fair.

Fair officials said changes have been made to state requirements for exhibitors showing beef and dairy cattle, goats, horses, sheep and swine. Exhibitors are encouraged to review the updated guidelines before arriving at the fairgrounds.

The fair also announced several security measures that will remain in place for the 2026 fair in cooperation with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

Under the policies:

  • Weapons of any kind are prohibited.
  • Clothing displaying obscene language or graphics will not be permitted.
  • Fairgoers ages 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old, who must remain accessible during the visit.
  • Visitors must use a clear bag no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches for personal items. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags are allowed. Diaper bags, when accompanied by a child, and necessary medical bags are permitted but are subject to inspection. Large purses and bags are prohibited. Small clutch bags no larger than 4½ inches by 6½ inches and clear backpacks are allowed.
  • All guests will pass through full-body scanners and may be subject to additional searches.
  • Character cutouts will be located at each entrance gate to help families identify where children entered the fairgrounds if they become separated.
  • Entry gates will close at 9 p.m. each day, and a no re-entry policy will be enforced.
  • Wristbands and hand stamps will not be used. Each admission will require a separate ticket purchase and security screening. Season pass holders may enter multiple times before 9 p.m.
