94-year-old driver seriously injured in crash with semi in Mayfield

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — A two-vehicle crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck left one person seriously injured Monday afternoon, according to the Mayfield Police Department.

Police said Charles Wiman, 94, of Mayfield, was driving south on Highway 121 near the intersection of U.S. 45 North when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane for unknown reasons.

Authorities said Wiman’s vehicle collided with a semi-truck driven by John Lewis, 61, of Monticello, before coming to rest on the opposite side of the roadway.

Wiman was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center before being airlifted to an out-of-state hospital with serious injuries. Lewis was not injured.

Emergency crews from Mayfield-Graves Fire/EMS, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
