JACKSON COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – A community solar project has been approved in Jackson County after receiving unanimous support from county leaders.

The Jackson County Board approved a 1.25-megawatt solar development proposed by Pivot Energy. Officials said it is the first project approved under the county’s solar ordinance adopted in 2025.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 200 homes.

Pivot Energy, a national independent power producer, has operated in Illinois since 2018 and currently has dozens of solar projects across the state that are operating or under construction.

Company officials said the project will include community investment efforts, such as support for workforce development, energy assistance programs and agriculture initiatives.

The solar farm will be built on land leased from local property owners, who will continue to use portions of the property for farming. Construction is expected to begin in early 2027.
