FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Andy Beshear announced the launch of a new pre-kindergarten pilot program and additional childcare initiatives aimed at expanding access for families across the state.

The Team Kentucky Pre-K for All Pilot Program will begin in Robertson and Rockcastle counties, marking the first phase of a broader effort to expand pre-K access statewide. The full-day programs are expected to begin during the 2026-27 school year.

Officials said the initiative, along with other recent efforts, will help expand early education and childcare access for nearly 700 children.

The governor also announced that the Team Kentucky Early Learning Center in Frankfort is set to open in September, initially serving up to 92 children of executive branch employees.

In addition, $850,000 has been awarded to expand a daycare facility at the YMCA of Owensboro-Daviess County, increasing capacity from 90 to 161 children.

State officials said the initiatives are part of a broader effort to improve access to early education, support working families and strengthen the workforce.
