WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A Kentucky man died in a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 57 in Williamson County.

A white truck tractor semi-trailer driven by David R. Vaughn, 41, of Fairfield, Ill. was traveling northbound on I-57 at milepost 52.

A deer ran onto the road. Vaughn swerved to avoid the deer and drifted off the pavement, according to Illinois State Police. He over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle, according to ISP. It rolled onto the passenger side and came to rest in the center median and across the traffic lanes of Interstate 57 northbound.

A 56-year-old man from Kevil, Ky. was driving a 2020 blue Peterbilt truck on Interstate 57 northbound at milepost 52.

Due to the darkness at the time of the crash, the driver did not see Vaughn’s vehicle in time to avoid a crash.

The driver of the second semi truck struck the underside of the semi-trailer driven by Vaughn.

The driver of the second truck was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

Vaughn was uninjured.
