Look in your backseat, you might have left something important behind

CAPE GIRARDREAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A three year old girl died after being left in a hot car in Carthage, Mo.

Authorities says the girl was in the car for a little more than an hour when a family member discovered her unresponsive.

Following this tragic event, the Cape Girardeau Police Department reminds everyone that summer is not over, even with cooler temperatures ahead of us.

It is vital that people be mindful of their children when they go out and make sure to take them along when exiting the vehicle.

“It’s a tragic event that could be prevented by taking a couple simple steps,” said Lt. Rick Schmidt of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. “We lock our car doors. We have to get our kids. Put something important to you that you have to have on a daily basis in the backseat.”

Lt. Schmidt says that while life can be busy, having to live with the tragedy of losing your child to forgetfulness is not worth it.
