Man facing several charges after police chase from MO to IL

UNION COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces several charges after a police chase from Cape Girardeau over the Mississippi River into Illinois on May 3.

David P. Rains faces charges of burglary 1st degree, domestic assault 2nd degree, and property damage 2nd degree in addition to the new charges in Illinois which will include but are not limited to aggravated battery to a peace officer, criminal damage to state supported property, reckless driving, resisting arrest and numerous traffic offenses.

A Cape Girardeau police office tried to arrest Rain on a felony warrant on May 3 around 2 p.m.

Rains left the scene driving a white Hyundai SUV, crossing the Mississippi River Bridge into Illinois.

He continued into Alexander County across Grapevine Trail, northbound on State Highway 127 into Union County.

That’s when the Union County Sheriff’s Office began to actively pursue.

Rains deliberately crashed into a Union County squad car, which disabled his (Rains’) vehicle, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Rains was arrested by law enforcement on N. Acre Lane in Jonesboro.

He was taken to the hospital for clearance, booked, and taken to Jackson County Jail.

Rains remained in custody and was being held on a no-bond felony warrant from Missouri for burglary 1st degree, domestic assault 2nd degree and property damage 2nd degree in addition to the new charges in Illinois which will include but are not limited to aggravated battery to a peace officer, criminal damage to state supported property, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and numerous traffic offenses, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cape City Police Department, Cape County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshall Service, Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Jonesboro Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

This remains an active investigation.
