Mayfield man faces charges after police chase, drugs found in vehicle

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KBSI) – A man was faces charges after a police chase with a Graves County sheriff’s deputy early Monday morning on August 8.

Andrew Kiprop, 34, of Mayfield faces charges of DUI 1st offense, fleeing or evading police 2nd degree in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia buy/possess, speeding 26mph or greater over the limit, communication device violation 1st Offense and other traffic violations.

Graves County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Crane saw the driver of a vehicle committing a traffic violation on the north side of Mayfield around 12:55 p.m. on Aug. 8, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Crane activated his emergency equipment and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and began driving from police. Deputy Chandler Sirls and KSP Trooper Garret Clark joined the chase and a short time later the driver pulled the vehicle over on Jimtown Road, just off of KY 121 North. It happened about 12:55 a.m.

Andrew Kiprop, 34, of Mayfield was said “to be manifestly under the influence of an alcoholic beverage,” according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

A search of the vehicle found a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office.

Kiprop was taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center.
