McCracken County changes monthly outdoor warning siren testing schedule

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – McCracken County Emergency Management has announced a permanent change to its monthly outdoor warning siren testing schedule.
Beginning this month, the county will test its outdoor warning sirens on the first Friday of each month at 1 p.m., replacing the previous schedule of the first Saturday of each month.
The testing procedure will remain the same. The test will begin with the attack tone, followed by the alert tone.
Emergency management officials said routine testing helps ensure the outdoor warning siren system is functioning properly and ready to alert residents during emergencies, including tornado warnings and other life-threatening situations.
Officials also reminded residents that outdoor warning sirens are intended to warn people who are outside and should not be relied on as the only method of receiving emergency alerts indoors.
McCracken County Emergency Management encourages residents to use multiple sources for emergency notifications, including NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts on mobile devices, local media and trusted weather apps.
