JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri gas prices remained steady over the past week as crude oil prices continued to stay below $100 per barrel, according to AAA.
The statewide average for regular unleaded fuel is $3.66 per gallon, unchanged from a week ago but 80 cents higher than this time last year. The national average is $4.09 per gallon, down 7 cents from last week and up 92 cents from a year ago.
Among Missouri metro areas, drivers in St. Louis are paying the highest average price at $3.90 per gallon, while Joplin has the lowest at $3.41.
AAA officials said lower crude oil prices have helped ease pressure on fuel costs following a recent ceasefire announcement between the United States and Iran. However, they noted that ongoing tensions in the region, particularly involving the Strait of Hormuz, could still impact global energy markets.
“Missouri drivers are seeing some promising trends at the pump as crude oil prices remain below $100 a barrel,” AAA Missouri spokesperson Nick Chabarria said. “That’s helped ease pressure on gas prices for now, but the situation remains fluid.”
AAA also said rising fuel costs continue to influence consumer decisions, including interest in fuel-efficient and electric vehicles.
The organization encouraged drivers to conserve fuel by avoiding aggressive driving, maintaining proper tire pressure and reducing excess vehicle weight.
