MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — Two western Kentucky men were arrested Tuesday after deputies discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Thomas Sawyers, 48, of Hardin on U.S. 641 south of Benton. During the stop, K-9 Drax conducted an open-air sniff and alerted to the presence of narcotics, authorities said.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered approximately 86 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales and marijuana.

Sawyers was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana, failure of a non-owner to maintain insurance, excessive window tint and no operator’s license.

A passenger, Gregory Watts, 65, of Fulton, was also arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Authorities said Sawyers was additionally served with warrants from Gallatin County charging him with two counts of trafficking in fentanyl and two counts of first-degree trafficking in methamphetamine.

Watts was served with three Graves County warrants for probation violations in felony cases.

The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
