VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) — The Vienna City Police Department and school resource officers conducted a drug search at Vienna High School with assistance from the Metropolis Police Department and K9 Krypto.
Officials said the search included the interior of the high school building and parking lot areas. No drugs were found during the search.
Lead Resource Officer Carl Manley said school officials recently handled two incidents involving cannabis and students at the school, prompting the K9 search.
Manley said illegal drugs have no place in schools and students found with illegal substances could face both school discipline and criminal charges.
Superintendent Dr. Joshua Stafford said Vienna schools have maintained a proactive approach to drug prevention through evidence-based education programs, restorative policies, random drug testing and unannounced K9 searches.
Officials noted the K9 used during the search is trained to detect marijuana.
