Marrero was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for robbery, three years for burglary and three years also for burglary.
The sentences are to run concurrent with two years of mandatory supervised release.
Carbondale Police officers were dispatched to the Super 8 Hotel at 1180 E. Main Street in Carbondale in reference to a robbery of 83-year-old James Meyers of Kentucky.
Marrero is seen on video surveillance footage shoving Meyers to the ground and stealing his wallet before running out of the hotel, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez.
He was arrested by law enforcement outside the Chili’s restaurant in Carbondale.
Marrero’s burglary charge from September 17 happened near the 300 block of E. Main Street in Carbondale. He broke into a vehicle in the parking lot of the Auto Repair Shop and stole a necklace, sunglasses, and other items out of the vehicle, according to Cervantez’s office. He was arrested.
