Cape Girardeau man receives award for saving a life

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Dustin Farrer received his award from the American Red Cross at the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Friday morning.

The certificate of merit is the highest award is given by the American Red Cross to individuals who save or sustain a life using skills learned in a red cross training services course.

Dennis Fredrick, his coworker, says he’s just waiting to cross the line for the one-year mark of his heart attack.

Fredrick says, “It means a lot that I’m still here, and a year, I kind of want to get past one o’clock, when everything happened, and then it’ll be kind of downhill from there.”
According to those who witnessed the event, Farrar did not hesitate when he found his coworker unresponsive and not breathing.

Immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest.
