JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – Leaders at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce have some big initiatives for 2024.

Brian Gerau is the CEO of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. He spoke with FOX23 News Multimedia Journalist Sasha Moore about plans to enhance tourism in Jackson.

“Draw people in and let them know of all the great things that are going on. We’re partnering with the city. We’re putting a website together. We’ve got a brand new LED sign that’s going to go outside the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Gerau.

The website showcase Jackson and list places to go, places to eat, hotels, destinations, and parks.

The LED sign will promote events whether it’s Homecomers, the train, Octoberfest, any sort of events that are going on in Jackson.

“It’s going to capture big traffic going on throughout Jackson Boulevard,” said Gerau. “So it’s really going to be able to showcase Jackson, Missouri.”

We’ll work with the city and whatever we can do to bring people into Jackson we’re definitely going to do that.

It’s important to showcase all the great things that we have. We want people to come to Jackson not only just to tour, but to come in and live and see all the great things.

“So, they come in and attend an event. They look around and see what great schools we have, safe city we have. It’s beautiful. And hopefully get people to relocate, but on top of that spend a little bit of their tourism dollars in Jackson and all those sites. Whether it’s our restaurants or our hotels, that’s the goal,” said Gerau.

A touriam division is being created within the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. It will have a logo, a website and showcase what’s going on in Jackson, Missouri.

“It you look at our last census we’ve grown tremendously,” said Gerau. “So now we’re well over 15,000 people. Our goal is to grow within our means. But that means making sure that we have housing and all the amenities. Whether that’s restaurants. Whether that’s hotels, everything that people need.”

“We’re growing,” said Gerau. “I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. So we just want to be prepared, but we also want to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to promote Jackson and bring people into the area.”
