Man arrested for drugs after traffic stop in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces drug charges after sheriff’s deputies say he was found with Fentanyl in his underwear after he was pulled over for traffic violations.

Isaiah B. Butler faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of adult use cannabis in motor vehicle and improper lane usage.

Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office saw a vehicle traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 13 when they say the driver committed multiple traffic violations around 1:20 a.m. on July 12.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop.

Butler was identified as the driver. He pulled over in a parking lot.

Deputies approached Butler and say he had impaired speech, body shaking and tried to hand them a credit card rather than his Illinois driver’s license.

Butler was asked to get out of the vehicle. As he did, deputies say they saw a green leafy substance, which was suspected to be cannabis, lying in the front passenger seat.

Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. While conducting the search, assisting deputies spoke with Butler.

These deputies knew Butler from prior law enforcement contact. They say they knew him to often conceal controlled substances on his body.

During the conversation, deputies say Butler told them that he had some pills in his underwear.

Butler was allowed to retrieve the pills, which he dropped on the ground as instructed.

Butler was read the Miranda Warning. Deputies says when asked what the pills were to which he responded “M30”s, then clarified that the pills were Fentanyl.

Deputies say the pills did field test positive for Fentanyl.

Butler was taken to and the Williamson County Jail.
