3-year anniversary of ‘The violent tornado outbreak of December 10-11 2021.’ 

KENTUCKY(KBSI) – December 10, 2024, marks the three-year anniversary of when a strong tornado swept through Western Kentucky and Northwest Tennessee.

The National Weather Service calls is ‘The violent tornado outbreak of December 10-11 2021.’

According to the National Weather Service on Friday evening of December 10, 2021 a severe storm quickly turned into an EF4 twister that would start in Northwest Tennessee and move across Western Kentucky, causing massive destruction to areas of the region.

The tornado began in Obion County, in Northwest Tennessee, and moved across 11 counties in Western Kentucky: Fulton, Hickman, Graves, Marshall, Lyon, Caldwell, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Breckenridge, and Grayson.

The National Weather Service reports that its 165.7-mile-long path length was one of the longest for a tornado in U.S. history.

Another long-track EF-3 tornado with estimated peak winds of 160 mph started in Dyer County, TN, and traveled 122.7 miles through northwest Tennessee and into Christian and Todd Counties in Western Kentucky.

More than 20 people were killed in Western Kentucky and countless homes and businesses were lost.

Today three years later Mayfeild Kentucky and surrounding areas are still rebuilding and picking the pieces.
