Missouri man sentenced to life in prison for brutal 2021 attack

CHARLESTON, Mo. (KBSI) — Dontae Jefferson was sentenced to life in prison on Dec. 10, 2024, for a Class A felony of assault in the first degree stemming from a brutal attack in January 2021 that left the victim with life-altering injuries.
Jefferson pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 23, 2024, and was sentenced by Judge R. Zac Horack of the 33rd Circuit Court.
Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney Claire Poley said Jefferson’s actions were “calculated and heinous” and had a profound impact on the victim. “This sentence underscores the gravity of this crime and our unwavering dedication to achieving justice for victims,” Poley said.
Poley expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, saying their efforts, along with the courage of the victim and their family, and the dedication of the legal team, made the outcome possible.
