Carbondale Police Department accepting applications for Citizens’ Police Academy

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — The Carbondale Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens’ Police Academy, a free program aimed at fostering positive relations and understanding between law enforcement and the community.

The academy consists of two components: Basic and Advanced Classes. The Basic Academy will cover topics such as police department divisions, patrol tactics, and investigations. Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 24, Oct. 8, Oct. 22, Nov. 5, and Nov. 19.

The Advanced Academy, open to Basic Class graduates, will focus on higher-level patrol tactics and firearms familiarization. The schedule for the Advanced Academy will be determined later.

Applicants must undergo a background check. Applications are due by Sept. 22 and can be submitted online or in person at the Carbondale Police Department.
