Carbondale hosts free car seat safety inspections during child passenger safety week
KBSI FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – Car seats and booster seats are essential for protecting infants and children in the event of a crash. To ensure maximum safety, parents and caregivers should select the appropriate seat based on a child’s age and size — and ensure it is installed correctly.
Car Seat Inspection Event
Certified car seat safety technicians from the Carbondale Fire Department and Carbondale Police Department will be available for free car seat inspections on Friday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event offers an opportunity for parents and caregivers to learn about child passenger safety and check their car seats for proper use and installation.
Attendees are encouraged to bring the child who will be using the seat, the vehicle owner’s manual, and the car seat instruction manual. Please allow 30 minutes per car seat.
Child Passenger Safety Week
Child Passenger Safety Week is recognized each September to emphasize the importance of keeping children safe while traveling in vehicles. In 2025, the campaign runs from Sept. 21 to 27.
Parents and caregivers can use the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Car Seat Finder tool to make sure their child is in the correct seat.
