Mt. Vernon announces passing of longtime Public Works Director

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Mt. Vernon announced with deep sadness the passing of Matthew Fauss, the city’s director of public works, on Tuesday, December 2.

Fauss began his career with the city in August 2005 and spent the past 20 years overseeing key infrastructure services, including roads, water and sewer systems, and city parks. City officials said his leadership and dedication played a significant role in Mt. Vernon’s progress over the past two decades.

According to the city, Fauss was known for his passion for engineering and his commitment to the community. Even while traveling to visit his children or recovering in the hospital, he continued looking for ideas to improve city operations.

“Matt’s leadership, commitment and countless contributions will be profoundly missed,” the city said in a statement.

City officials extended their condolences to all who knew and loved him.
