WASHINGTON (KBSI) — Mike Bost said House approval of a federal transportation, health and security funding package will provide $7 million for infrastructure and emergency response projects across Southern Illinois.

The legislation includes funding Bost secured for local projects in Clay, Crawford, Jackson, Jasper and Washington counties. The broader package also provides a 3.8% pay raise for members of the military and includes investments in education, health care, road improvements and expanded access to truck parking.

Bost said the funding will support roadway improvements, infrastructure restoration and emergency response capabilities throughout the region.

Projects funded in Illinois’ 12th Congressional District include $2.2 million for the Village of Oblong’s South Range Street replacement project, $2 million for a Washington County Emergency Management emergency operations center, $1.3 million for transportation improvements on the west side of Flora, $900,000 for the restoration of Poplar Street in Carbondale, and $540,000 for North Muddy Township to reconstruct North 600th Street.

The measure now advances through the appropriations process.
